Landscape Design

LANDSCAPE DESIGN – THE PROCESS

Our initial consultation takes place in  your home. We discuss your needs and assess all aspects of the space.

The landscape design process involves a number of stages. After meeting with you to discuss your brief, we prepare some conceptual ideas for you – all based around what you are looking for. All our drawings are prepared in a 3d cad environment, so we can fly you through the different ideas. You are invited and encouraged to be a part of the design process – after all, it is your place. After we finalise the design process to come up with a final landscape design, we can then cost the project. After that we can then get started on the construction drawings and prepare for engineering requirements and building and planning permits.

Have a look at this months feature project for an indication of how we present our drawings to you.

Concept Design (stage 1 of the landscape design)

Concept plans are a way of exploring the options for your space. They provide you with a range of ideas and styles for your area. Through consultation with you the design is then consolidated into a single plan. Spacesandplaces prepare 4 concept drawings, based around a brief that you fill in. It is a great idea to put together a scrapbook of images to convey to your designer the look you are after. It is their skill that will make your ideas come to life. Stuck for ideas? Dont know which way to go? Dont worry!, the designers will come up with something great for you. The purpose of presenting you 4 differenent concepts is to engage you in the design process. It allows you to put your own mark on the design and get what you really want, after all, you have to live in this new space.

Final decisions are not always easy, that’s why the channels of communication are always open; continued discussion and options for revision are an ongoing part of the outdoor design process. Images, drawing sets, and videos are easily conveyed through email and live on the web site. You are always more than welcome to drop by and visit the designers at their office in Burwood.

Presentation of your designs includes a private meeting with our head designer. Designs are presented in 3D format, with computer generated walk-throughs of your garden to help you get a real understanding of the plans. Large print A3 portfolios of the concepts are also provided for you to take home and explore.

Construction plans (stage 2 of the landscape design)

Once your final landscape design is established construction plans are needed to ensure proper and correct construction techniques are followed by your landscaper and builder. Construction plans form part of the technical drawings needed to build or quote on the project. Spaces and Places typically prepare all of the engineering documentation, property titles, the building permits, planning permits and all construction details, leaving you free of all of those headaches!

Construction (stage 3 – after the landscape design)

Before commencing construction some aspects of the design may need to be re-submitted for council approval and further engineering plans may also be required. The total design process can take as little as a couple of weeks and can also stretch out into many months. Every job is different and requires different amounts of attention. Some of the landscaping design process gets stalled with councils where special permits and permissions are required.
